Lord of the Rings: War in the North

When I was young I read the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy and thoroughly enjoyed them. In fact I think that it may have been the point in my life where I realised that I loved fantasy fiction. What better person to start my fiction journey than Mr Tolkien himself?

Middle-Earth Enterprise have been responsible for some excellent publications and the latest one that is due to hit the PC, XBOX and PS3 in 2011 is Lord of the Rings: War in the North. An action RPG that is said to be true to the story where you get to travel unseen lands. Whilst the story will be original you will also be able to form your own three player fellowship.

You can play the game yourself or as I mentioned, up to three players. Snowblind, the developers, have managed to create an innovative interdependent co-op play style where if you do not match up the skills that each player has in perfect harmony you will suffer the consequences.

However, before entering the battlefield you will be have to create your character. You can choose a race between human, elf or dwarf and so far it looks as though the classes will be ranger, mage or warrior respectively. The extensive customizations leads to meaningful and rewarding RPG gameplay including established loot and reward systems.

It has been flagged already that the Lord of the Rings: War of the North is going to contain some brutal gameplay. In my opinion I think this is a good thing. When you watch the films or read the books you soon come to realise that this isn’t an all out epic party between fluffy penguins and puppies. It is all out war between races including Orcs who don’t have a friendly bone in their bodies. Incidentally for you general knowledge lovers out there, this is the first M-rated Lord of the Rings game.

There we have some facts about what looks to be an epic action RPG to be released some time next year. There are already screenshots, videos and concept art all over the internet and personally I can’t wait for the release.
